OUR WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAMMES
SURGERY FOR DIABETES
Diabetes and excess weight are closely associated with each other; 40% of people with obesity have type II diabetes and 80% of type II diabetics are overweight. This relationship between obesity and diabetes is now often referred to as ‘Diabesity’.
Long term diabetes which is not well controlled leads to many serious health problems including:
Eye, kidney and nerve problems
LAPAROSCOPIC GASTRIC BYPASS
The most complex and effective of our bariatric procedures, the gastric bypass cuts away (but does not remove) about 80% of the existing stomach leaving behind a small stomach pouch and bypasses a portion of the small intestine. This combination allows patients to lose up to 30-35% of their body weight. Gastric bypass is particularly beneficial for those suffering from type-2 diabetes and GORD (acid reflux / heartburn).
This procedure converts the stomach into a designed long, slim tube. By ensuring the size and the angles of this tube are calibrated accurately our patients get very quick fullness and satisfaction from eating. The result is you want to eat less and lose weight very soon after surgery.
Who it works especially well for:
Patients with BMI over 35, as well as those with type 2 diabetes and/or high blood pressure.
SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY/GASTRIC SLEEVE
This procedure makes the stomach into a designed long, slim tube. By ensuring the size and the angles of this tube are calibrated accurately our clients get very quick fullness and satisfaction from eating. The result is you want to eat less and lose weight very soon after surgery.
You can expect to lose 25 – 30% of your total body weight during treatment and we usually see immediate Improvement of type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.
Who it works especially well for:
This works very well for patients with BMI over 35.
ORBERA GASTRIC BALLOON
A synthetic, sterile fluid filled balloon is placed in the stomach, partially filling the space inside. This has the effect of making you feel less hungry and feel fuller quicker and for longer when you do eat. The Orbera gastric balloon must be removed after 6 months, after which time dietary support will help you maintain a more controlled diet and therefore maintain the weight loss.
Weight loss of 9 -20Kg can be achieved during the time the balloon is in place.
Patients needing assistance to achieve initial weight loss, and who can commit to the required lifestyle changes long term.
REVISIONAL BARIATRIC SURGERY
Sometimes bariatric surgical procedures require a repeat operation. Bands may need to be removed and replaced by a sleeve gastrectomy or a bypass, or a sleeve gastrectomy may require converting to a bypass. Mr Hashemi has been performing complex revision surgery of this sort since 2001 and relies on his exceptionally broad experience of operating on this area for the full range of diseases including cancer to give excellent results

WHAT OUR CLIENTS' SAY
After years of expensive and ineffective dieting, exercise, personal trainers, detox, weight management courses, hypnotism and healthy eating plans, I decided I needed to find the best possible long-term treatment which would not only help me to lose weight but reduce the risk of potential illnesses caused by obesity, particularly as I reached 54. Following months of extensive research and consideration, recommendations and reviews, it was clear that Dr Hashemi was the leading expert in the field of bariatrics, notably non-invasive, gastric balloons. After consultation, my procedure was discussed and agreed, and I liked the fact it was a simple, effective and long-term solution to become slimmer and healthier. It has transformed my life; I have lost 12 kg (26 lbs) in 10 weeks, I run every morning, go the gym, eat healthily and feel incredible! Also, my confidence is back, I am more sociable, I fit into my old clothes from my twenties, and wonder why I didn’t have this done years ago! It is the best investment I have ever made! I’ve just had a full health MOT and passed with flying colours (from my cholesterol to my blood pressure)!! I can’t rate Dr Hashemi high enough. Book now! It will change your life!
Gastric Balloon procedure
"In short, I have lost over 50kg, I now weigh 72kg (as you said I would) from an initial weight of 124kg on the day of the operation. I am very happy now with the way I look and feel great form the health perspective. Blood pressure is down, Cholesterol is down. I cannot thank you enough for the change and transformation which has been the result of the operation I had last year.
"It seems impossible that nearly two years have gone since my gastric by-pass and it is eighteen months since our last consultation. I wanted to let you know how I am progressing and since it is all good, please feel free to pass this email to anyone who is considering having this miraculous, live-saving procedure. Firstly, my diabetes, angina and high blood pressure all so much better as to be negligible. My German GP has me on two Metformin (500mg) per day, morning and evening (whereas before I was on six 800mg tablets per day plus three Glicazide). This keeps my blood sugars in the low 6.0s. I take on Simvastatin (10mg) in the evening and a baby aspirin daily. No medication for my blood pressure is required. My weight went as low as 57kg but now has stabilized around 62kg which feels about right. My scars have disappeared, and the skin has tightened up nicely. I have had no side effect beyond nausea for which I consulted you about in May 2012. That disappeared and has not returned. I can eat anything I want, including sweets in moderation. I can drink a glass or two of wine but not on an empty stomach. I have no indigestion, acid reflux or pain of any kind. I cannot tell you how wonderful the last two years have been. I feel so well and frankly, so young! I can walk for ours around the beautiful little city, Bamberg where we have settled. I can hike up into the hills and then back to our house. I can shop till I drop! Yes, I admit to a renewed interest in fashion, a bit shallow I know and that is not why I had the operation, but it is certainly a plus. I am so very grateful to you for your care and skill. And the wonderful nursing staff at the Wellington Hospital. I know there are people who suffer terrible problems and side –effects from this procedure, about which the Daily Mail loves to publish horrific articles. I can only speak of my own experience which has been, as I have said miraculous. Thank you again and very best wishes."
"He visited me before and after each surgery I am one-week post -op and feeling great I would highly recommend If you are thinking of having this surgery - do it with a professionally experienced surgeon like Mr Hashemi. I would highly recommend. His PA Sophie is also wonderful!"
Lap band to Sleeve Revision Surgery
I first met Mr H 5 years ago to see if I could have some sort of weight loss surgery. On meeting him he made me feel relaxed and confident that he could help me. After a few necessary safety tests Mr Hashemi operated on me with a full bypass. After the surgery he took great care of me for my diet and emotional well-being. I continued to see his dieticians and Mr Hashemi for a few months and found the result of the surgery amazing. I look forward to my yearly meetings to show Mr Hashemi he did an amazing job for me. I now eat a healthy diet and feel really well 5 years on. Mr Hashemi and his team are the most caring I know in the medical world and would not hesitate to recommend him."
